The Hatchery Fund
Grassroots grants for movement R&D.
A project of The Roost Institute
The Hatchery Fund is a micro-grant program supporting hypothesis-driven experiments by grassroots animal advocacy organizers. The premise is simple: local groups constantly try things, but almost none of what they learn survives contact with the next group. A small grant, a clear hypothesis, and a written result can change that.
Grants are small on purpose. The point isn't to fund a program — it's to fund a question.
How it works
- An organizer proposes a small, testable experiment — a new outreach format, a retention tweak, a different ask.
- The Fund covers modest costs and helps sharpen the hypothesis and measurement plan.
- Results get written up and published here, whichever way they come out. Null results count.
Experiments
Write-ups of funded experiments will be published on this page as they complete.
